Snake Plant

The Snake Plant (scientifically known as Sansevieria), also called Mother-in-law’s Tongue or Viper’s Bowstring Hemp, is a popular, low-maintenance houseplant. This hardy plant is native to West Africa but has become a common fixture in homes and offices worldwide due to its striking appearance and numerous benefits.

The Snake Plant is known for its upright, sword-like leaves that resemble the shape of a snake, which is why it got its common name. These leaves are typically stiff, dark green with lighter green or yellow stripes running along their edges, giving the plant a bold, ornamental look. Some varieties of Sansevieria may feature more pronounced yellow or white variegation.

The plant grows in a rosette pattern, and depending on the species, its leaves can reach anywhere from a few inches to several feet in height. Sansevieria is a succulent, so its thick, fleshy leaves are designed to store water, which makes it highly drought-tolerant.
